Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced the change in an interview on December 1, 2024.

Currently, Express Entry candidates with valid Job Offers receive additional 50 or 200 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. These additional points can help candidates secure an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residence (PR).

The immigration department clarified that the removal of the additional CRS points for having a valid Job Offer is a “temporary measure” and it would come into effect in the Spring of 2025. It will apply to all new and existing candidates already in the Express Entry pool, including those already “working in Canada temporarily”.

So, how will removing CRS points for valid Job Offers impact Express Entry candidates?

Let's consider two hypothetical Express Entry candidates.

  1. Daisy, who is 37 years old, holds a BA degree plus studied for 2 years in Canada, worked 2 years in Canada and is fluent in English.

  2. Donald, who is 41 years old, studied for 3 years in Canada, worked for 2 years in Canada and is fluent in English.

Will the CRS cut-off scores for Express Entry draws decrease in 2025?

Unfortunately, we can’t predict the upcoming draws. However, we might expect the CRS cut-off scores to decrease given that all those candidates with valid job offers will have their scores lowered.
